Art isn't just beauty: in some Polish cities it's actually transforming lives. A recent study explored how artistic interventions can truly change people's lives. Researchers examined how murals, site-specific installations, graffiti, and participatory projects can build social bonds and improve resident safety. The research analyzed concrete cases in various Polish cities, comparing approaches that use art to revitalize urban spaces. The results show that when artists work alongside local communities, new relationships form between neighbors and a stronger sense of belonging emerges. Moreover, artistic interventions have proven to make spaces more welcoming and less feared, especially in the most marginalized areas. The methodology was qualitative: interviews, observations, and comparative analysis of different types of works. This approach allowed understanding not just how art changes the physical appearance of a neighborhood, but also how it influences social perception and citizen safety. The artist isn't just a creator, but a true facilitator of urban change.

The study employed a rigorous qualitative approach, combining semi-structured interviews with residents, field observations, and comparative analysis of four main types of artistic interventions: large-scale murals, site-specific installations designed for a specific location, community graffiti, and participatory art projects. Each case study was selected to represent different Polish urban areas with distinct socio-economic characteristics, enabling an equitable comparison of regeneration strategies. The results highlight a dual effect: on one hand, art has contributed to requalifying degraded spaces, transforming them into meeting places and of collective identity. On the other, it has shown how co-creation with the local community can generate stronger social bonds. Residents reported a stronger sense of belonging and a greater perception of safety, as art becomes a visible element that reinforces social fabric. Scientifically, the study used content analysis to measure the impact of works on spatial and social perception. Data indicate that artistic interventions not only improve aesthetics but also modify urban behaviors, reducing perceptions of insecurity and promoting positive use of public spaces. This approach demonstrates how art can be an effective public policy tool, integrating creativity and community well-being.
