In recent years, social media have transformed communication, but they have also facilitated the spread of false news. To counter this phenomenon, a new AI model called BBHL has been developed. BBHL combines three key technologies: BERT, a neural network that understands text context; Bi‑LSTM, which captures bidirectional temporal dependencies; and an attention mechanism that highlights the most relevant parts of the discourse. The real innovation lies in its learning approach: instead of using only binary cross‑entropy (BCE) loss, BBHL adds a contrastive loss. This technique compares similar and dissimilar examples, making extracted features more distinct and improving the model’s ability to generalize to new data. Experiments on three datasets – Weibo, Twitter, and Pheme – show that BBHL outperforms older models like EANN and MCNN, achieving higher accuracy and F1‑scores. Ablation studies also confirm that contrastive loss is essential to the model’s success. Practically, BBHL offers a robust, scalable solution for real‑time fake‑news detection, thereby protecting social stability and trust in online information.
The BBHL (Binary‑Balanced Hybrid Loss) model is a deep learning architecture that combines multiple neural components and loss functions to enhance fake‑news detection. Its backbone consists of BERT, which provides contextual embeddings; Bi‑LSTM, which captures bidirectional temporal dependencies; and an attention mechanism that focuses on salient text segments. While binary cross‑entropy (BCE) handles the basic binary classification, BBHL introduces a contrastive loss to boost feature discriminability. Contrastive loss operates by pulling together representations of similar examples and pushing apart dissimilar ones, thereby shaping a latent space where classes are more separable. This reduces overfitting and improves generalization to unseen data. Experiments on Weibo, Twitter, and Pheme datasets show that BBHL outperforms older models such as EANN and MCNN, achieving higher accuracy and F1‑scores. Ablation studies confirm the critical role of contrastive loss, demonstrating that its inclusion is essential for the model’s performance. Overall, BBHL offers a robust, scalable solution for real‑time fake‑news detection, with implications for cybersecurity, media monitoring, and digital literacy.
