Imagine a world where transportation is both efficient and eco-friendly. In China, scientists are working on just that! They studied the green efficiency of transportation in 30 regions from 2003 to 2020. The results? Overall efficiency is low, but there are big differences between regions. Eastern areas are more advanced, while central and western regions have a lot of catching up to do. The good news? Eastern regions are driving change, like a powerful engine. This study helps understand how to improve transportation sustainably, reducing regional disparities.

To assess transportation green efficiency, scientists used the SBM-DEA model, considering both inputs and outputs of the transportation sector. They also employed the SDE model and social network analysis (SNA) to study spatiotemporal evolution. Eastern regions, with an average efficiency of 0.722, are leading, while central and western regions have lower values, respectively 0.434 and 0.478. This study reveals a 'core-edge' structure, where eastern regions act as the core, while others are peripheral. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for more sustainable transportation policies.
