Sleep is essential for mind and body, but spotting when something goes wrong isn’t easy. Sleep disorders are common, yet doctors struggle to diagnose them quickly because each person is different and symptoms overlap. Researchers have built an AI called NRGAMTE that learns to “watch” three body signals at once: brain waves (EEG), muscle movements (EMG) and eye movements (EOG). First, raw signals are split into 30‑second chunks, then each chunk is processed by a 1D‑CNN that extracts hidden features from every signal. A cross‑modal attention mechanism picks out the most useful information across the three signals, while a residual path keeps the key details intact. The result? NRGAMTE detects sleep disorders with 94.5% accuracy on a large public dataset and an impressive 99.6% on a specialized sleep database, beating many existing single‑ and multi‑modal methods. This tool could help doctors diagnose sleep problems fast and reliably, improving millions of lives.

The NRGAMTE model integrates multimodal physiological signals to enhance sleep disorder detection. Raw signals are segmented into 30‑second windows to capture both temporal and spectral dynamics. Each signal is encoded by a 1D‑CNN, preserving modality‑specific characteristics (e.g., EEG frequency bands, EMG amplitude patterns). Cross‑modal fusion employs a residual gated cross‑attention mechanism (MRGCAF) that computes dynamic weights for each modality pair, emphasizing informative interactions while a skip pathway bypasses gating to retain critical features. A transformer encoder then applies self‑attention across the fused sequence, modeling complex temporal dependencies typical of sleep patterns. Experiments on Sleep‑EDF and the CAP database achieve 94.51% and 99.64% accuracy, respectively, with significantly reduced inference time compared to pure CNN or RNN baselines. This approach paves the way for clinically validated, low‑power sleep screening tools.
