Have you ever thought about how important it is to see where you are stepping? For the visually impaired, the classic white cane is a super ally, but it has one limit: it can't warn you if a branch or a sign is about to hit your head! To solve this problem, experts have created a small technological device that works like a personal radar.
Imagine an ultrasonic sensor, similar to those in modern cars, positioned on the chest or a backpack strap. This gadget emits invisible waves that bounce off obstacles, alerting the user before an impact occurs. This isn't just a lab prototype, but a tool tested in real life by 74 people, including users and instructors, over several weeks.
The results are truly positive: most testers felt much safer, especially when moving through new or unfamiliar environments. The device was designed to be super simple: the detection distance can be adjusted using small switches that can be felt by touch, making everything very intuitive. Thanks to this technology, walking becomes a freer and, above all, much safer experience!
