Global warming and the energy crisis are forcing us to rethink our way of life. One key sector is logistics, responsible for a significant portion of CO2 emissions. But what if future trucks were powered by clean energy? A recent study analyzed this very scenario, proposing a strategy to promote renewable energy logistics vehicles. Scientists created an evolutionary game model involving three actors: the government, vehicle manufacturers, and logistics companies. This model showed that with the right political support and economic incentives, companies would be more likely to produce and use low-emission vehicles. Furthermore, reducing the costs of these vehicles and improving their market competitiveness could convince logistics companies to make the big leap towards a greener future. In short, the transition to a low-carbon economy is not only possible but also advantageous for everyone!
The study used a tripartite evolutionary game model to analyze the interactions between the government, vehicle manufacturers, and logistics companies. This model allowed simulating the impact of various policies, such as the dual credit system and additional incentives, on the spread of renewable energy vehicles. System dynamics (SD) was employed to simulate the model and explore the impact of key decision variables on evolutionary outcomes. The results showed that appropriate political support can encourage companies to produce low-emission vehicles and promote the transformation of the sector towards a low-carbon economy. Furthermore, the optimization of the dual credit system and the increase in the value of point trading can motivate companies to produce more renewable energy vehicles. Reducing the costs of renewable energy vehicles and improving their market competitiveness can increase the willingness of logistics companies to use these vehicles. Finally, the government should encourage logistics companies to use renewable energy vehicles in multiple dimensions.
