Cyber threats are getting smarter, making it hard for companies to spot and stop attacks quickly. MICRA, short for Modular Intelligent Cybersecurity Response Architecture, is a modular design that aims to change the game. It consists of six interoperable modules: dynamic data acquisition, cognitive threat analysis, multi‑layer validation, adaptive response orchestration, collaborative intelligence sharing, and a machine‑learning engine. Using supervised learning, heuristic analysis and behavioral modeling, MICRA cuts false positives and works in various settings, from corporate to school networks and critical infrastructure. Each module can be scaled or swapped as needed, encouraging cooperation across different organizations. The goal is a proactive defense that automates early response steps while sharing real‑time intel with external partners. MICRA is still a conceptual framework, but it offers a solid foundation for future research and implementations to make networks more resilient against ever‑more sophisticated attacks.

MICRA is built on a micro‑service architecture where each module exposes RESTful APIs to ensure interoperability. The data acquisition module uses eBPF‑based network sensors to capture kernel‑level packets, minimizing overhead. Cognitive analysis employs deep learning models, such as convolutional neural networks, to detect anomalous traffic patterns, also leveraging transfer learning to quickly adapt to new attack vectors. Multi‑layer validation combines rule‑based (signature‑based) filters with reputation systems built on trust graphs, dramatically cutting false positives. Adaptive orchestration uses a policy engine based on declarative languages (e.g., OPA) to decide in real time whether to isolate, block, or monitor an endpoint. Collaborative sharing utilizes a permissioned blockchain to guarantee integrity and non‑repudiation of threat intel exchanged between organizations. Finally, the machine‑learning engine is designed for continual learning: models are periodically retrained with labeled data from sandboxes and honeypots, maintaining high detection capability even for zero‑day threats. The whole platform is containerized with Docker and orchestrated via Kubernetes, ensuring horizontal scalability and resilience in cloud‑native or on‑premise environments.
