Imagine having to design the perfect mechanism, but you have an infinite number of possible solutions to choose from. How do you proceed? Traditionally, engineers set a few key positions and solve complex equations to find the optimal solution. However, this process can be like finding a needle in a haystack, with infinite variables to consider. A new study proposes an intermediate method that combines human intuition and computational power. Engineers can manually adjust certain parameters to increase the percentage of valid solutions. For example, by modifying the translation and rotation of a moving plane, you can shift the

The proposed method is based on optimizing solution density, a concept aimed at maximizing the number of valid solutions in a defined search space. Engineers can manipulate the parameters Ξ΄j and Ξ±j, which represent the translation and rotation of the moving plane, respectively, to shift the position of the poles. This shift affects the distribution of solutions, increasing the likelihood that a valid solution falls within the specified design criteria. The case study presented in the work concerns the design of a 7-bar parallel motion generator. Without applying the method, only 0.008% of the solutions met the design criteria. After optimizing the solution density, this percentage rose to 3.154%. This significant improvement demonstrates the effectiveness of the method in reducing computational load and facilitating the design process.
